Canada allows entry of immigrants who are in possession of an expired COPR and PR Visa

August 3, 2020

The Canadian government has allowed the entry of Individuals with expired P.R. visas and Confirmation of Permanent Residence (COPR).

Fresh guidelines have been issued for Immigrants who are in possession of a PR Visa and COPR, but the documents have now expired. Such Individuals are exempt from the travel restrictions to Canada due to Covid-19.

On top of that, there are different guidelines for Immigrants who are coming from the U.S. or other countries around the world. People from countries other than the U.S. must have their visas issued on or before March 18, 2020. Whereas, U.S. based visa holders are not subject to this requirement of visa date. They may travel to Canada with the expired documents as deemed suitable.

Only Immigrants who intend to stay in Canada and settle here for the long term would be allowed to travel at this stage. People who temporarily come to Canada and wish to leave later, cannot travel right now unless they are exempt from the restrictions.
